School Folder Stereo

This invention dates back to 1992, and is the second release. (The original folder wore out.)

It is a common lever-arch folder, but with a few differences.

This folder contains an amplifier, sound effect generators, a talking clock, and an ammeter. The previous model also incorporated a 2-way radio where the elastic strap is now. The music source is any walkman that can be connected to a standard headphone plug It used to also contain a mercury switch to prevent theft.

This amplifier came out of a Philips rim-drive turntable that had worn out its usefulness. It is quite powerful for its size and appears to incorporate philips' ever-popular physiology (loudness) filter. (More bass at low volumes)

This is a talking clock. Normally they sell in a plastic pyramid, but that wouldn't fit. The PCB in the right photo is the talking part of the clock, and has been tediously connected to the clock itself (left). The entire folder was made using leftover Telstra wire.

These are 4 different kids toys. The two board on the top are the standard machine gun / laser / bomb sounds. The board on the left is a decision maker. The board on the right is a roadrage board - shouts abuse at drivers. These are operated with a wet finger or a pencil and are suitably amplified.

My school was an alternative school that didn't really mind what you did - you were responsible for your own life and education. You could wear whatever you wanted, and talked to teachers on first name basis, etc. The school has now closed - I think drugs stuffed it up, and having to move when they built a freeway through it.

This folder was made in Year 11. The talking clock is now used in the Kingswood as part of the Roo-F-O resulting in one step closer to converting it to a KIT from Knight Rider :)

Accessories for this included: Solar panel for charging and operation, Power pack, Fan, large speakers.
